The 'Squirrel' song is slow but I chose it because it is funny, (and probably because I seem to have this 'animal thing' with dances), and it also has the 'churchy' sound which I think fits this sort of dance where there should be interaction between dancers. Any polka rhythm should suit if you don't like my choices. I realise that this is very different from the dances I usually create, and some of you will be wondering if senility has finally settled in! - (it may not be far off, but I don't think it's here yet!!), but I made this dance intentionally easy and kept the counts and steps simple to encourage people to give it a try and have 'fun' - it is also easy enough that plenty of variations can be added if you wish - you could of course do it non contra, but it would probably bore you into a coma!!!. To me the most overused word in line dance circles is "fun" - I also think it is usually misused instead of the word enjoyment, because for me, "fun" implies laughter and a little 'out of control' behaviour, usually only seen when dancers 'stuff up' or when they are doing contra dances. I know many dancers immediately sit when the word 'contra' is mentioned, probably because they will have no one to follow or are afraid to make a mistake - they don't know what they're missing! One of the most 'fun' dances I can remember is Charlotte Skeeters' Reaching Out, and people always seem to have a ball doing it, and it's probably my all time favourite dance to teach purely because people do have such a good time with it .
