Play Something Funky Arm Movements In America some choreographers are incorporating arm movements into their dances. This has proved popular with the younger line dance generation. It is great to see younger people taking an interest in line dancing and it is worth presenting material that will encourage them to experiment a little and enjoy the dance experience. This dance has been choreographed with these younger dancers in mind. Arm movements are done on the counts in bold type. The arm movements are simple - the trick is co-ordinating them with the steps. (Some steps have been printed in italics as a guide.) DANCE BEATS ARM MOVEMENTS 1-8 1&2 1 Raise R elbow out to R side at shoulder height, turning lower arm so palm faces to R side. & 2 Bring both elbows to waist, arms straight, turning lower arms so palms face forward 3&4 3 Swing both arms back slightly. (Step L back) & 4 &5&6& &. 5 Swing both arms slightly forward, turning lower arms so palms face forward. (Touch R heel to R diagonal) & 6 Turn both arms in beside body, flicking wrists so palms face out to each side. ) & Turn arms in towards body so palms face forward again.) Buttermilk 7&8& 7 Swing both arms slightly forward, turning lower arms so palms face forward. (Touch L heel to L diagonal) & 8 Turn both arms in beside body, flicking wrists so palms face out to each side. ) & Turn arms in towards body so palms face forward again) Buttermilk 9-16 1&2 1 Raise R elbow out to R side at shoulder height, turning lower arm so palm faces to R side. & 2 Bring both elbows to waist, arms straight, turning lower arms so palms face forward. 3&4& 3 Swing both arms slightly back. (Step R back) & 4 & Raise both elbows so they point out to sides of body, fists clenched. (Raise & lower L heel.) 5&6& 5 Drop both arms down beside body, fists pointing to floor. (Touch R heel to R diagonal) & 6 Turn both arms in beside body, flicking wrists so palms face out to each side.) & Turn arms in towards body so palms face forward again.) Buttermilk 7&8& 7 Swing both arms slightly forward, turning lower arms so palms face forward. (Touch L heel to L diagonal) & 8 Turn both arms in beside body, flicking wrists so palms face out to each side.) & Turn arms in towards body so palms face forward again.) Buttermilk 17-24 No arm movements 25-32 1&2& 1&2& 3&4 3&4 &5 & 5 Stretch R arm down R leg while raising L shoulder. 6 6 Stretch L arm down L leg while raising R shoulder. 7&8 7&8 33-40 1&2& 1&2& 3&4& 3&4& 5&6& 5&6& 7&8& 7 & 8 Turn both arms in beside body, flicking wrists so palms face out to each side.) & Turn arms in towards body so palms face forward again.) Buttermilk 41-48 1&2& 1&2& 3&4& 3 Swing both arms back, fists clenched. & 4 Swing both arms forward. & Curl lower arms up to chest. 5,6 5 Hold arms to chest. (Stomp R fwd to R diagonal) 6 Hold arms to chest. (Stomp L fwd to L diagonal) 7&8& 7 Unclench fists and drop R arm down to side. & 8 Drop L arm down to side. & |
